Quote of the Day

“This black snot ball smells just like Ivory soap.”

…last night I started a batch of laundry soap and fell asleep.  Ivory soap + water + boiling all the water away= stink fest.

Today, I cleaned out the pot, adding water and letting it soak for a few hours.  The result: blackish snot-water that smelled surprisingly 99.44% pure.

Happy Saturday!

  1. Hmmm. I’m not sure how I feel about this post… Curious mostly… Does the ivory turn into a powder or a liquid after you cook it? At least it smells good 🙂

    1. What is supposed to happen: melt one bar ivory soap in four cups super-hot water. Mix 1c borax, 1c baking soda, 2c super washing arm &hammer with 3 gallons super warm water. Combine the two mixtures in a bucket and stir. Let it sit over night and use 1c per load.

What happened: I forgot the soap and water on the stove. It turned black and smoked up my house. I freaked out. The dog peed on the floor. …good times.

  2. Oh wow! What a mess! I’m glad nothing worse came of it though! Maybe I’ll make laundry detergent, to replace a huz item, too! Lots of great ideas coming from your blog darling 🙂 Your page looks great by the way!

  3. Did you go ahead and use the burnt substance in your laundry? I burnt my soap in the microwave and is thinking about using the soap in the laundry.
