Today Amy gets to spend all day playing with her kiddos while meanwhile I’m slaving away over the computer doing a guest post. All kidding aside, when I talked to Amy yesterday I was thrilled at the opportunity to do a guest post on her blog. While I’m not as beautiful or witty (brownie points, yes!) as Amy, hopefully her readership will find me acceptable.
For those of you who don’t know me, let me introduce myself. My name is Laura and I am Amy’s sister-in-law. I first met Amy about 9 years ago and, at least I think, we clicked immediately. I always knew she was great, but this past year she has really shown how much she cares about her family. It takes a special person to basically put your life on pause for several months to help someone else and that’s exactly what she did. See, in February of 2010 I was diagnosed with leukemia. I had talked to her when I was sick, but before the diagnosis and told her I felt like I was going to die. Her response… “Can I have your Wii games?” Nice Try! When we found out what it was, she moved her family halfway across the country to help. I never wanted the cancer to define me, for people to look at me say “oh, that’s the girl with cancer”. I never wanted people to feel sorry for me. Amy never treated me different and that’s one of the reasons why I love her. We would joke about it because we have a similar sense of humor. I told her the day I couldn’t joke about it would be a sad day because that means it had changed me. She helped me keep that sense of humor and for that I thank her.
